We propose a workshop that explores the relationships that may exist between biology and language through an examination of the concept of ‘function’ in the two domains. A number of different areas of philosophy – cognitive science, philosophy of mind, neurophilosophy, philosophy of biology, philosophy of language, epistemology and logic – may cooperate in this exploration. Such an exploration may even suggest the need to revise the relations and the boundaries between these areas.
